VJ'S BLUES FOXTROTTERS
The purpose of my breeding program is to produce the best possible Blue
Roan Missouri Foxtrotters I can. I believe in breeding the best to the best.
Temperment is my number one priority. I want a horse that is sweet,
willing, and intelligent. That horse should also have a confident mind that
can accept new things and all the scary stuff one encounters on the trail
without losing his mind, or his rider. I am in my mid-forties now, so safety is
utmost in my plan. The horse should be easy to work with on the ground
and WANT to be with me and work with me.
Secondly, I want solid and sound conformation with balance and beauty.
My goal is to produce horses who are smooth muscled for gait, with nice
heads, necks, and backs, balanced with deep hips, long forearms, and
short cannon bones. I also focus on large joints, good bone, and solid black
feet, although I do have one mare with 3 striped hooves (my farrier loves
her feet too). If I would compare the horse of my goals, it would be closer to
a Warmblood than a Quarter Horse, similar to a Morgan but with longer
lines. I prefer horses that are 15H and taller to accommodate my longer
legs.
My third priority is for a natural foxtrot. I believe you should be able to get
on a Foxtrotting horse, and that horse should foxtrot! The foxtrot should be
the gait the horse prefers to do. It should be natural, smooth, and fluid, with
good extension, energy, and power. Add the ability to do a running walk,
and I am thrilled! But, first and foremost, a Foxtrotter should want to
foxtrot! My goal is to breed away from the pace, and toward a better
balance of pace/ trot, to produce the coveted foxtrot. Horses that foxtrot
also tend to have a nice square canter. This produces a more balanced
and athletic horse that can do a variety of disciplines. This is what the
Missouri Foxtrotter was originally bred to do and this is my goal, to produce
Foundation type of Missouri Foxtrotters.
Lastly, I like to add the Blue Roan color as an added bonus. I was drawn
immediately to this color when I first saw it and decided that is what I
would like to concentrate on. Am I a "Color Breeder" ?? Yes, and no. First,
I want a solid horse with the qualities I have already discussed. Then, if the
horse comes out blue roan, I am doubly pleased. Ok, now I am adding
Buckskin Roan and Red Roan to my goals! (grin) Truth is, color is only the
icing and it is very nice to have. But the horse inside is the most important
aspect of breeding. I would rather breed a great red horse than a poor blue
roan or any other color. First you have to have the horse. Then you can
work on adding the color.
So, am I THERE yet? No, but as a breeder who is always striving to improve
the breed, I do believe I have the means to get there. The horses I have
begun with are solid, sweet, naturally gaited, with sound conformation. My
farrier loves their feet! They all have willing personalities, and foxtrot
naturally. The key, then, is to make smart matches. My goal is to produce
the type of Missouri Foxtrotter that anyone would be proud to own, horses
that are willing, sound, foxtrot naturally. Horses that are beautiful to look at,
and a joy to ride. That is a goal worth pursuing!!! May the Lord be pleased
with this goal, and may He be praised for giving us the pleasure of the
Missouri Foxtrotter!!
MY PHILOSOPHY OF BREEDING

Sales Philosophy
I am not here just to sell you a horse. I am here to try and match a good
horse to the right person. I will not just tell you the good points of each
horse. I will also do my best to inform a potential buyer of any
conformational or temperment issues with that horse. All horses have
"flaws." I have never seen the "perfect" horse. However, I do believe
there is a "perfect" horse for each person, meaning, one that is well
matched to a person's personality, build, riding ability, and type of riding
that person wants to do. I will not sell a horse to a person if I think it is
not a good match.
Foxtrotters are wonderful horses for a wide variety of riders. They are
comfortable enough for the older rider, versatile enough for the rider who
wants to jump, do reining, cow penning, or gaited dressage, and
good-minded enough for someone who wants to ride the trails for
relaxation. They are also athletic enough for endurance, competitive trail
and cutting, depending on the genetics of each individual horse. They are
friendly and willing to learn, and are just a joy to be around.
MIssouri Foxtrotters may be one of the great secrets of the horse world,
yet to be discovered for the awesome horses they are. I am here to help
you get to know these wonderful creatures and their potential to be your
ultimate equine partner.
My horses are all treated with kindness and firm leadership. They are my
companions, my friends, my helpers. My hope is that they go to a home
that treats them the same, a place they will be well-cared for and
appreciated. References are routinely asked of potential buyers to
assure my friends are going to good homes, so please don't be surprised
when I ask. Feel free to ask questions and take your time in finding the
horse that is right for you.
